HELP! What happens on my Chinese AD wedding day?

January 5, 2017

After choosing your auspicious wedding day, do take note of any auspicious timings and what time you want everything to be over by. Start from there. Remember, your wedding is as packed or relaxed as you want it to be :) Here is just a typical shakedown on what some AD wedding mornings might look like:

Firstly, the groom who gets "tortured" during the gatecrash and the compulsory tea ceremonies:

  1. 0500-0700 Make Up (Please consult your HMUA for more details)

  2. 0700-0800 Gate Crash

  3. 0800-0900 Optional Photoshoot Location with allowance for travel, typically close to the bride's or groom's place

  4. 0900-0930 Travel to Groom's place (please save your photog or videog a seat so they can take cool expressway shots!)

  5. 0930-1030 Groom's Tea Ceremony

  6. 1030-1045 Bride changes into her Tea Dress

  7. 1045-1115 Travel to Bride's Place

  8. 1115-1200 Bride's Tea Ceremony

  9. 1200-0100 Lunch

  10. ...onto the hotel for dinner!

Secondly, couples who want to be married in the eyes of God or visit their ancestors:

  1. 0500-0700 Make Up (Please consult your HMUA for more details)

  2. 0700-0730 Gate Crash

  3. 0730-0815 Bride's Tea Ceremony

  4. 0815-0845 Travel to Groom's place (please save your photog or videog a seat so they can take cool expressway shots!)

  5. 0845-0945 Groom's Family Tea Ceremony

  6. 0945-1015 Travel to Religious Venue

  7. 1015-1145 Religious Service and sneak in some couple shots

  8. 1145-1245 Lunch Reception

  9. ...onto the hotel for dinner!

Thirdly, the couple who wants to chiong through 10 hours of their Solemnisation + AD wedding + hotel lunch reception:

  1. 0500-0630 Make Up (Please consult your HMUA for more details)

  2. 0630-0700 Gate Crash

  3. 0700-0745 Bride's Tea Ceremony

  4. 0745-0815 Travel to Groom's place (please save your photog or videog a seat so they can take cool expressway shots!)

  5. 0815-0845 Take some fun shots around the Groom's Place

  6. 0845-0930 Groom's Family Tea Ceremony

  7. 0930-1000 Travel to Hotel

  8. 1000-1100 Hotel Couple Shots

  9. 1100-1200 Solemnisation

  10. 1200-1300 Lunch Reception (sneak in some photobooth shots!)

  11. 1300 1st march in

  12. 1430 2nd march in (get a good SDE Editor!)

  13. 1500 Your 10 hours is over, but most people stay on till 4.30-5 to say goodbye to their guests...

Lastly, we may have the chillax couple who takes things slow and just enjoy time with their loving guests:

  1. 0900-1000 Make Up (Please consult your HMUA for more details)

  2. 1000-1030 Church Reception

  3. 1030-1200 Church Ceremony

  4. 1200-1230 Group shots

  5. 1230-1330 Lunch

  6. 1330-1530 Tea Ceremonies or Optional Family Portraits

  7. 1530-1600 Travel to Hotel

  8. 1600-1700 Relax

  9. 1700-1800 ROM

  10. 1800-1900 Reception

  11. 1900 1st March in

  12. 2030 2nd March in (lots of time for SDE)

  13. 2200 Line up and give your heartfelt thanks and gratitude to guests!

There are too many permutations, but here are just some more common ones. If you are interested in downloadable sheets, I may make one on google docs soon! :)
